Narrowing these lists down to ten is always tough and this time was no exception. But after long periods of pain and denial (mostly kidding), I present to you, in no particular order:
The Top Ten Books I've Read in 2012
Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
My Review
So this list is in no particular order... minus this book. I can officially say that Unspoken was my absolute favourite novel of the year. The characters and the setting and the dialogue and the humour and MY EMOTIONS CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE AWESOME. Sarah Rees Brennan is an evil mastermind and I will gladly wait as long as necessary for the next installment <3
Spark by Brigid Kemmerer
This series is pretty much the best ever. The characters and relationships are so complex and realistic... I LOVE IT. I've fallen head over heels for the Merrick boys.
The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead
Richelle Mead strikes again in her 2012 YA novel. I'm sensing a pattern here but... these characters! I love Sydney and Adrian to death <3 I love how much they've grown as individuals and can't wait to see how much more they will. Sidenote: my sister's hooked on the VA series too, YIPPEE! I can't wait for her to start on Bloodlines, she's almost there! :')
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo
Epic fantasy with fantastic character development and mind-blowing world-building? Yes, please. If you're interested, this is the book for you. Besides, there's a Veronica Roth blurb! I mean, my taste is questionable perhaps but the woman who put together Tris and Four? Can't beat that ;)
Insurgent by Veronica Roth
Aaaaand speaking of Tris and Four... they're back in the sequel to Divergent with even better roles! I loved this book even more than the first which is saying quite a bit. The books are so action-packed and made even better with characters that are strong and still vulnerable.
Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
If you read no other book on this list, please please please read this one. If your reaction is anything like mine, you'll feel like you've been knocked over the head with a hammer when you're finished but it's a million times worth it. Brutal and beautiful.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
No review yet... but soon!
Ohhh, this book. My emotions were on high the entire time I was reading this and I fell in love with the characters so quickly. The novel is so raw and the characters so endearing. I was living Hazel's life as I read this.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
How could you not love this unique and exciting twist on Cinderella? I mean, Cinderella is a MECHANIC CYBORG. I also read Scarlet a few days ago and it's amazing!! These books are just SO captivating, I cannot stop thinking about them.
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
This is the most captivating, lovely book... ahh, I loved it! The language is beautiful and the novel itself is such a quiet, atmospheric read. I'm so glad that I read it!
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare
My favourite Cassandra Clare novel to date... JEM! <3 (+ everything else)
Honourable Mentions
Black Heart by Holly Black
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood
Throughout your entire list I was either going 'loved it!' or 'Dang, I need to read that one!' I keep hearing amazing things about the Bloodlines series so I should definitely pick up book one some time soon. Awesome Top Ten! Happy Holidays! :)
