Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein



THAT FANCY PRINTZ STICKER. But really, I think I still prefer the original. There was something striking about that one whereas the new one is a more calming, visually-pleasing look. I definitely like the new blend of colours and it's still a good cover, but I think that overall I'd choose the first.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman



I liked. the old cover. 3000x more. The new cover is so boring and done and just nothing fun. If anything was to be changed, I would throw in some travel and adventure! That was what drew me to the book in the first place (besides the Gayle Forman attachment obviously) and I think it would really cool to incorporate that somehow!

This change makes a whole lot of sense to me considering it's a MG read. While I really loved the original cover, it was interesting to me that it stood so far apart from other novels in the genre. This new cover is a lot more what I was expecting. I like the brighter colour of the new cover and the fun, intriguing image. They're both really great covers! I'm personally going for the first because I think it's just really cool but I fault no one for preferring the new one!

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa



I really quite liked the original cover for this series. It's dark and edgy and even though I can never stop thinking about the fact that she's crying from the middle of her eye (thanks for that Chloe) I liked it! The new cover... not as much. I mean, it's alright. I like the font and the more gritty-looking background, but I can't help but think it looks like one of those cover placeholders used for ARCs and such. Still, as cover changes go, not a terrible one by any means!

The Disenchantments by Nina LaCour

 

Don't hate me for saying this, but I've always thought the original cover looked like something I could have photoshopped myself. I DID love how bright and colourful it was and without having read it, it seems like a really fun book (people that have read it... is it?). But still. I like the new cover a lot! There's still that brightness but it's a little less in your face. I love the tagline too (if you can't read it, it's "Maybe we always were the people we imagined ourselves to be.")

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

I don't know about this cover change! Sometimes I look at it and I'm pleased and other times I wish they'd stuck with the same theme. I think the new covers will appeal to an older audience and I like the emphasis on the places that the books take place (because with Stephanie Perkins, that was a big part of the magic for me!). But at the same, I miss the cuteness of the couples in the first two books. I was excited to see what Isla and Josh would look like on the cover!

Fury by Elizabeth Miles



Okay, so I know that the original cover had almost everyone freaking out with how pretty it was (or at least that's how I remember it!) but I was never too huge a fan. The hair is beautiful and everything but... that posture. I can't get over the slouching, it is seriously distracting to me every time I look at the cover! I like the expression on the girl's face for the new cover... it screams 'revenge' to me. Although I will say that I prefer the old tagline: "Sometimes sorry isn't enough."

The Catastrophic History of You & Me by Jess Rothenberg



Whew! Three covers and in all honesty, none that I really dislike. The first (pre-pub) was definitely eye-catching and very unique. I was a little sad that they changed it to the second (hardcover) but not really because it's so pretty! I love the way that they've edited Brie's body to really make it seem like she's dead. The new paperback isn't something that I would normally go for but it really reminds me of Patrick! I like the classic look to it. This one's a tough one but there's a definite winner for me.

Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood



*sniff* I KNEW this would happen to me! Born Wicked has what I think is one of the prettiest covers EVER and the thought that the rest of the series will be different is kind of sad. BUT, in all fairness, the paperback is pretty great as well. It totally gives off that witch vibe whereas the original doesn't really tell you much. But... still! Look at that gorgeous, stunning, perfect first one <3 Ah well. The publisher knows best :) I hope that the paperback gets tons more people to check out the series because it is fabulous!

Sean Griswold's Head by Lindsey Leavitt



The cover was what first attracted me to this (marvellous) novel and so I am pretty sad that they used a different one for the paperback! I just think the original is a much more unique take on it and the font and blackboard designs are pretty cute. That said, I don't dislike the new cover... it's just pretty standard, I think. Still, I hope it brings in lots of new readers because I LOVED this book! :)

If I Stay by Gayle Forman



I can absolutely, no questions asked, see why they changed this cover. The new one matches the story well with that sideways, haunting image and the tagline about having to choose is fitting too. BUT, I still prefer the original. It's so quiet and peaceful and unassuming and I loved that personally about the book. I love the significance of a single leaf left on the tree and kind of at that point where it may fall off or may stay. I love it.

Gimme a Call by Sarah Mlynowski



I haven't read this novel yet so I can't judge based on that but I really prefer the new (paperback) cover. The first one doesn't stand out much to me and I think it's a bit of a shame having all that white right smack in the middle of the cover. The newer one looks a lot more fun and I love the overall vibe that it has. It makes me want to pick up the book!

The Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer




This is definitely the cover change that stands out to me the most. I think the blogosphere kind of exploded when images of the new covers started to surface.

Okay. I have tried really hard to like the new set and while I don't mind the covers for Nightshade or Bloodrose, I HATE Wolfsbane's cover. I don't know what Penguin was intending with that pose Calla's in but um, I'm not a fan. And the colouring? It is so dark that the whole thing looks almost black. I thought it would be better IRL but it's really not.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi



I did like the original cover (sparkly!) but I like the new one so much more. I just think it's very representative of the tone of the story. Tahereh Mafi's writing is definitely one of a unique style and I think the whimsical sort of things they do with Juliette's eye reflect that.

Blood Red Road by Moira Young



Okay, I haven't actually read this book yet so I can't judge based on accuracy to content, but I can say which is more visually appealing to me! I'm kind of sad they changed the direction for these covers. The original looks amazing IRL with the texture of the paper feeling kind of rough. I just loved the overall look of the original, especially with the colours. That sad, the new isn't bad by any means. I still like it.
