So, as you may or may not know, this is the final week of Blogspiration.

 

Now, obviously, this is a sad moment for me (and everyone, I'm sure) but instead of focusing on that, I'd just like to take this time to thank all of you so much for making it what it has been.

 

To Kristin and Sarah: you are both brilliant, talented, hard-working ladies and I am SO glad that you decided to team up to host this meme. Every week that I've participated has been one in which I've left inspired, motivated and touched in some way. You can bet that I'll be clicking back to old Blogspiration posts months from now. Thanks to everyone for sharing a bit of inspiration with me! :)

Can I just say... yes. A million times, yes. There are some really lazy words in my vocabulary that I'm trying to eliminate because half of the time, they don't even make sense. I don't want to be saying things just because I'm picking up on other people using it all the time!

Can we just put these EVERYWHERE?

I love little examples like this of kindness in the world. I feel like I'm always so surrounded by what's wrong with the world -- the violence, the inequality, the power struggles, whatever -- that I forget to take time to marvel at the beauty and wonder and just love of others. Human beings have such potential for goodness and even though, really, all this is, is a sheet of paper... it's so much more than that.

1. J.K. Rowling. Do I actually need to explain this one? OBVIOUSLY JKR is at the top of the guest list.

 

2. Leonardo Da Vinci. This guy was such a genius... it blows my mind when I think about all the areas that he excelled in. He could probably bring interesting points of view to any type of discussion and I would love love love to hear his thoughts on war and weaponry directly from him rather than just read all the speculation.

 

3. Mother Theresa. This is one of my automatic names when asked about people that inspire me (well, all of these people are, TBH). I just think she was an extraordinary woman and to eat a meal with her would be quite the honour.

 

4. Mahatma Gandhi. Um. Yeah. Also very up there on my list of most inspirational people. I think he would probably like sitting next to Mother Theresa!

 

5. Craig Kielburger. I have so much admiration for this man - he's the founder of Free the Children and Me to We and just such an inspiration. Plus, he's Canadian! I would love to talk about children's rights with this man. Of course, he's welcome to invite Mark along too!

 

6. David Suzuki. Another Canadian! I definitely needed to add an environmentalist to this table and David Suzuki was the obvious choice. He's seen and done so many cool things with our natural world and it would be really great to chat with him about some of it.

 

7. Buddha. Um, YES PLEASE. I want to sit next to the Enlightened One! Maybe he can share some of his wisdom with me :)

So there is my list! It's pretty intimidating to look at actually but I really like the final line-up (there was some serious consideration going on here, I actually asked around at the dinner table). I'm pretty sure that this group, left alone to talk for a while, could figure out the formula for world peace.

 

Now I'm SO curious to see who you would have at your dinner party... Any ideas?

I saw this video close to the time it was originally posted but also again on TED a few nights back. I find this video (along with so many other TED talks) just amazingly inspirational and I can only hope that I get a speaker at my commencement that will be worth remembering :)

I've always liked the idea of choice and that what you're born with doesn't dictate who you are. My man Dumbledore acknowledges that we are human and therefore not perfect but doesn't hesitate in saying that our actions speak louder than anything we may be thinking.

My initial thought was: OH NO, HOW WILL I CONDENSE THE ENTIRE HARRY POTTER SERIES INTO ONE POST? Then rational thoughts started making themselves known in my brain and I figured that probably wasn't a feasible idea.

So, okay, my number one quote because I'm being forced to pick! I don't know, this one below has always really stood out to me and (of course) it's from the genius Albus Dumbledore.

Okay... is anyone really surprised that my post is a Hufflepuff-centric one? I haven't really made it a secret that I am a Hufflepuff and I'm immensely proud of my house.

I feel like Hufflepuff gets overlooked. We're accepting and will take people of all types, so I guess people take that to mean that Hufflepuffs are the "leftovers" and the "losers." So not true.

I have always wanted to be a Hufflepuff because their qualities are the ones I value most: kindness, loyalty and compassion. Okay, sure, it's great to be brave and smart and ambitious. If that's what's the most important to you, I'm certainly not against it!

For me, being a Hufflepuff has always meant putting kindness first. It means that being an understanding, non-judgemental person is more important than being an intelligent one. It means that you stick by what you believe in, even if you're made fun of for it. I'm hard-working. I'm fair. I'm tolerant. I'm a particularly good finder! (haha, no I'm not actually... but forget that)

So that is why I proudly wave my Hufflepuff banner. BADGER PRIDE!
